The KitchenAid 600 mixer is the newest addition to my kitchen. When it sits on my counter-top unused it’s hardly noticeable. However, turn that baby on, and it steals the show! I am absolutely thrilled with this mixer.

Listed below are all of my favorite features, and a few small areas that keep it from being perfect. I’ve been told my whole life that there is no such thing as perfect, however, this product is about as close as it gets.

KitchenAid 600 Mixer – The Pros

• 10 speed
• extremely powerful
• soft start, minimal splatter
• easy to use
• spiral dough hook
• reduces effort

This mixer has a great 10 speed range. Not only does it have ten speed settings, but there is a marked difference between them. My last mixer touted more speeds than there actually were. I don’t mean there was false advertising. The difference in the some of the speeds were so minimal, I just didn’t see the point, or the value in having them.

If I had to pick my favorite thing about the 600 mixer, I can sum it up in one word: POWER. Wow, does this machine have some power behind it. The mixer that this replaced doesn’t even compare. In fact, until I used this machine, I never really understood what all the KitchenAid fuss was about. Yes, they make great appliances, but I wasn’t convinced it was worth the extra money. I now stand corrected. The only thing I regret about my purchase is that it didn’t happen sooner.

Besides having mega-power, this mixer is also very user-friendly. The controls are simple, and the attachments are a cinch to snap on and off. The attachments themselves are also fantastic. My personal favorite is the spiral dough hook. My last mixer had a C-shape hook, which I was more than satisfied with. However, after using the spiral dough hook on my 600 model, I couldn’t imagine ever going back to the other style. The spiral hook seems considerably more efficient, and does a fantastic job on my dough.

One of my family’s favorite recipes is my great-grandmother’s oatmeal raisin cookies. Even though Nana has been gone for a long time now, there is never a holiday or get-together without her cookies. Now, as much as I love my Nana’s oatmeal cookies, I don’t necessarily love to make them. The dough is ridiculously thick, and it takes some real arm work. However, my KitchenAid mixer takes this super-stiff dough on like it is nothing!

There is a significant reduction in work for me. I feel like this little workhorse is doing it all, short of buying the ingredients and cleaning itself.

KitchenAid 600 Mixer – The Cons

• parts are not dishwasher safe
• loud humming buzz sound
• head doesn’t tilt back

There are only a few issues that prevent this from being the perfect mixer. First of all, the parts are not dishwasher-safe. I wonder why a company like KitchenAid would fail to see how important that detail is. Also, the sound it makes is pretty loud. It’s not actually any louder than my last mixer, but the pitch is incredibly high. I suppose I will get used to this over time, but in my opinion it’s an area that could use a little improvement.

Another small detail that bugs me is the fact that the head doesn’t tilt back. To be honest, it hasn’t actually caused any issues, or made clean-up any more difficult. It is just a feature I am used to, and with such a high-end mixer, I find it odd that the head is in a stationary position. Maybe this wonderful mixer has simply spoiled me, and now I feel entitled to all the bells and whistles! Regardless, I love my mixer despite these few minor gripes.

KitchenAid 600 Mixer – Other Things Worth Mentioning

• frequent promotions and rebates
• well worth the price
• huge and stationary

For years my mother told me I had to get a KitchenAid mixer. She absolutely loves hers, and it’s going strong after fifteen years. However, I was never willing to spend the money. Then the stars seemingly lined up to make it happen. A couple of days after my old mixer gave out, I found an online coupon code for 20% off. On top of that, this model offered a nice rebate. I went for it obviously, and I couldn’t be happier that I did. My mother of course, is loving her chance to say ‘told you so.’

Another thing worth mentioning is that this mixer is no lightweight. It is heavy and stationary. In my opinion this needs a permanent place on the counter-top. I don’t consider this a Pro or a Con, as it is a little of both! Of course, flexibility is always a good thing, and that is seriously limited because of the bulk. However, the bulk keeps this thing in place and sturdy. With the power behind the motor, it has to be heavy to sustain the action.

KitchenAid 600 Mixer – This Product is Perfect For

This product is perfect for anyone who wants a top-quality mixer with insane power. It really reduces work, so any busy kitchen can benefit. It is super-durable and great on dough. People who are serious about their baking will love this mixer.

KitchenAid 600 Mixer – The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that the KitchenAid 600 mixer is worth every rave review it gets. I seriously can’t fathom why someone would be less than satisfied with this mixer, as my high expectations have been completely surpassed. I was a long-time hold out, never wanting to shell out the money for a KitchenAid mixer. However, in life we learn that some things are worth paying extra for, and this is one of them.
